What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it allows you to see when websites have added new content. Film Shed has RSS feeds for latest articles and forum posts. I hope to extend this functionality to the events calendar, blogs and job sections in the future.

How do I use RSS?

The first thing you'll need is a news reader, a piece of software that checks RSS feeds and allows you to read any articles that have been added to them. There are many different news readers to choose from, some free such as FeedReader, some charged-for such as NewzCrawler.

Alternatively most browsers such as Firefox, IE7, Opera or Safari automatically check for RSS feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. This can make subscribing to RSS feeds much easier. For more details on these, please check their websites.

Once you have chosen a news reader, you can subscribe to the relevant RSS feed:

You will also see these orange buttons on the relevant sections of the website. If you click on the button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.

Using Film Shed RSS feeds on your site

You are welcome to use Film Shed RSS feeds on your own website provided you acknowledge the source.

If you have any further questions contact Steve using the contact form.
